I finally caved and got a paddle board this year! In 2022 I rented a couple different boards in a few different places (Jasper, AB was a personal favorite – shout out to Translucid Rentals for the amazing service!) and I fell in love with the sport. Don’t get me wrong, I love canoes and kayaks too but there is something about the versatility of a paddle board that won me over.
This summer I bought an 11′ Voltsurf Paddleboard from Canadian Board Company.1 This company is a Canadian company based out of BC and makes high quality inflatable water gear!
Back to my adventure at Islet Lake!
Located east of Edmonton, Islet Lake is a hidden gem to paddle on! It is secluded and has a lot of mini inlets to explore.

We leisurely explored the entirety of the lake. There were so many little inlets to explore and we took our time while enjoying being on the water.
There were herons, fish, little buildings, forests, islands, and lookout towers to find. My friend and I enjoyed the fact that we were the only ones on the water besides the water birds that were flying around. The clouds and slight rain probably helped that fact.
The water was incredibly calm. The only thing we had to watch out for was the aquatic plants that had reached the surface of the water. This lake is a great starter lake – if you are beginning your paddle boarding journey, this is a great lake to learn!

Islet Lake is small but mighty. I thoroughly enjoyed this paddle! I will definitely be back.
